Pick up almost any pack of high-THC seeds and somewhere on the label is a number: twenty-five percent, twenty-eight, 30. It is stated with as much certainty as the seed count, and it is not remotely as reliable. The seed does not contain a percentage; it contains a potential, while the figure on the pack is a record of how near to that ceiling a particular grower, under one set of conditions, once came. Sellers such as https://potentthcseeds.com carry lines carrying tested results as high as 30 percent, and this article is a guide to what stands between that number and the jar on your own shelf: how the figure is produced, where it moves, what the grower can control and what the genetics settles before it is ever planted.
What Was Actually Tested
A THC percentage on a seed pack comes from a lab test of dried flower. A grower, typically the breeder or a trusted test grower, grew the line, chose a plant, took a few grams, and sent it to a lab. The lab measured cannabinoid content by dry weight and returned a report. The number on the pack is usually the highest certificate from that process, rather than the average.
Several things come from this. The figure refers to a one phenotype out of a population that holds many. It describes that plant in the test grower’s conditions, which are seldom average. And it refers to a sample cut from a particular place on the plant, usually the top of the main cola, where trichome coverage is highest. Potent THC Seeds publishes the test report behind every stated figure, with the number of plants grown out, which is 12 plants on most current lines, so the spread is visible next to the peak.
Why the Report Has More Than One Figure
Open a cannabinoid report and the biggest number is usually THCA, the acid form that the living plant makes. THCA converts to THC under heat, and during the conversion it sheds a small group, which takes about twelve percent of its weight along with it. A flower showing twenty-five percent THCA holds around twenty-two percent potential THC after heated.
Seed listings quote the THCA figure since it is the bigger one. Some add the minor amount of free THC to it and skip the conversion adjustment, which inflates the total further. Neither is fraud, strictly; it is convention, and the convention favours the larger number. The accurate way to compare across two lines is on „total THC“, calculated as THC plus about 0.88 times THCA, and a report that gives that figure separately is worth more.
Why Two Seeds Give Two Numbers
Run a whole pack of a tested line and the plants will not each hit the label. Even in a well-bred line the spread from the weakest and strongest plant can be five or more percentage of dry weight, and in a less stable line it can be more. The figure on the pack lives at the top of that range; the majority of plants land somewhere beneath it.
That is not a failure in the seed, it is what seed reproduction means. Clones reproduce a single plant; seeds reproduce a gene pool. To the grower it means a single practical lesson: running several seeds and keeping the best frosty female is the only method to get close to the label figure reliably, and a grower that runs one seed and hopes for the advertised number is gambling on a lottery that they did not know they had entered.
Ceiling and Floor
The clearest way to think of two limits for every plant. The ceiling is genetic: the highest THC that plant can produce with ideal care. No nutrient schedule, light or method lifts it. The floor is environmental: how much below the ceiling the plant lands when some factor was missing.
Most small grows operate well below the ceiling, and the distance is almost always in the grower’s hands. Which points to a conclusion the marketing rarely states: in a grower not yet reaching the ceiling of a twenty-percent line, a 30-percent line will not help. The extra headroom stays unused above the same limits. Choosing stronger genetics makes sense after the current ones are already finished close to their ceiling.
The Five Things the Grower Controls
Between seed and the floor sit a handful of variables that are responsible for nearly the whole difference, and not one of them is exotic.
- Light intensity in flower. Resin production follows light delivery until a limit the majority of home lamps never reach. Underlit flowers end up looser and weaker regardless of the genetics.
- Harvest window. THC peaks when the majority of trichome heads are cloudy and just a minority are amber; earlier it has not fully forming, later it degrades into CBN. A week either way costs measurable percentage points.
- Drying and curing. Hot, fast drying burns off terpenes and converts THC to CBN; a slow dry and a patient cure hold the potency and the profile which makes it feel strong.
- Sample selection. The lab measured the top of the main cola. Lower flowers on the same plant test lower; a grower comparing the entire harvest with the label number is weighing the lot with a single best.
- Plant health through flower. Nutrient mistakes, pests and stress in the last weeks divert the plant’s resources aside from trichome production. A clean, untroubled plant ends closer to its ceiling.
From Ten Percent to Thirty
Some forty years ago a tested THC content over ten percent was exceptional. Selective breeding for resin, controlled growing and improved laboratories pushed the average number higher over the next decades, and at some point during that rise the percentage became from a measurement into a selling point.
When customers began choosing by the number, breeders began chasing numbers: testing many samples and keeping the best, listing THCA as THC, choosing labs reputed for high results. Not one of those habits changed a single seed. What plants genuinely get stronger, yet the distance between the stated figure and the real result grew more quickly than the genetics improved. A claim of 30 percent in the current market needs the same question as any number: measured by whom, on how many plants, and stated as THCA or as total THC.
What the Number Stops Telling You
Here is an awkward fact the number does not capture: past a given level, the perceived change between shrinks. The difference between ten and twenty percent is unmistakable to anyone; the gap between twenty-five and thirty is often invisible under the influence of the aroma profile, other cannabinoids, the way the flower was dried and the way it was used.
This does not render the figure useless; it means it a single factor out of several. A well-grown, properly cured twenty-two percent flower with a rich terpene profile often feels more potent than a rushed twenty-eight. To a buyer choosing seeds, the useful reading is this: treat the percentage to rule out low-potency lines, and after that choose between the strong ones by aroma, plant habit and the breeder’s record, not by the final two points.
How to Read a High-THC Listing
Everything above comes down to a handful of checks that are worth putting to any seed listing ahead of ordering.
- Does the terpene description sound like a real plant or like a catalogue of flavour words? A seller who has run the line knows it specifically.
- Is the testing laboratory named and the report available? Unsourced figures are marketing, however they read like.
- Does the breeder state a word about cultivation setup? „Under high light, cut at week ten“ tells you something; nothing gives you nothing.
- Is a spread shown, or only a peak? A range means several plants were measured; a single figure usually indicates one.
Ordering and the Law
Potent THC Seeds sends each order in unmarked parcels with the original packs intact inside and nothing on the exterior to reveal the contents. Orders to the United States are not taken, because seed importation is not permitted there. Seed law differs sharply by country: in many places buying seeds is lawful as souvenirs while germinating them is not, and in others the two are permitted under licence or both is. Checking the position in your own jurisdiction is the buyer’s responsibility, and no part of this article is legal advice.
